One Man and his Droid Commodore 64 game

One Man and His Droid is a game published by Mastertronic in 1985 for use on the Amstrad CPC, Atari 8-bit family, Commodore 16, Commodore 64, and ZX Spectrum home computer systems. The object of the game is to use a doglike droid to collect Ramboids, the male form of alien sheep, and move them into teleporters to win the game.

Gameplay: Before the game begins, the player is given the option of inputting a password to resume a previous game or start from the beginning. There are passwords for each of the twenty different ramboid-filled caverns, and as the player progresses, the computer releases the corresponding password.

The main window displays a view of the droid placed centrally among the scenery inside the cavern. The player's task is to guide the droid to the starting position. Ramboids move predictably and always reverse their direction if blocked. The player must work against the clock, as Ramboids only live for about twenty minutes. Failing to get at least four Ramboids into the teleport in the right order within the time returns the player to the first screen.

Music: The Commodore 64 version's music was composed by Rob Hubbard, praised by enthusiasts as one of the finest compositions for that machine. Hubbard drew inspiration from Jean-Michel Jarres' album Magnetic Fields for this song.

Reception: Zzap!64's reviewers found the game enjoyable to play with basic graphics and a good soundtrack, awarding it an overall rating of 81%.
