wallie goes to rhymeland Commodore 64 game

Gameplay

The game takes place in a single large two-dimensional maze, which represents an absurd multi-level supermarket seen in section, with brick floors and walls. The view is limited to a small area about three floors high at a time, with scrolling in all directions (on Commodore 64 the scrolling is fluid, while on Amstrad CPC it happens in steps when you approach the edges of the screen). The protagonist Wallie can walk horizontally, climb on vertical ladders, and jump with a fixed trajectory, vertically or sideways.

The goal is to collect 40 objects of various kinds scattered throughout the supermarket and bring them to the cash register, but Wallie can carry a maximum of five at a time. Therefore, it is necessary to explore the entire maze in search of objects and return to the cash register at least eight times. The point where Wallie starts the game, and reappears every time he loses a life, is in the bottom left corner of the building, while the cash register is in the bottom right corner.

The supermarket is populated by monsters of various appearances, which move along simple repetitive paths. The scenario is complicated by floors that periodically disappear, conveyor belts, slides, lethal barriers that move up and down or appear intermittently, and a kind of deadly green mold that sometimes appears from ceilings or floors. In some cases, you must find and activate a lever that controls the opening of a mandatory passage. Contact with monsters or lethal objects and falls from heights, even from a single floor, immediately cause the loss of a life.

The soundtrack includes a remake of Popcorn and, only on Commodore 64, tracks 5 and 6 of Équinoxe by Jean Michel Jarre.
