Out Run (Route B) (J1) Commodore 64 game

Yee-Ha!

Outlaw marks a continuation of the direction established with their previous release, Imhotep. Ultimate appears keen to diversify by incorporating different game types from outside sources.

You control a large, well-animated figure embarking on a mission in the desert, with well-drawn scrolling backdrops featuring a scorching sun and cacti. Your character engages in shootouts with five mounted desperadoes. Using sophisticated joystick controls, you can make your horse walk, trot, gallop, and jump over obstacles while simultaneously ducking and shooting both backward and forward.

Once you've taken care of these adversaries, you can cross the border into town. Here, more villains briefly appear at windows and doors, both at ground level and above, requiring quick diagonal joystick sharp shooting skills. From this point onward, the challenges intensify, with vultures, Indians, rocks, arrows, and various other hazards coming at you as you venture into increasingly wild territories.

The sound effects are adequate, featuring ricocheting gunfire, among other things, and the action is spiced up with bonus points for hitting particularly tricky targets.

In summary, Outlaw offers a satisfying shoot-'em-up experience, although it may feel somewhat underwhelming for longtime Ultimate fans.
