Bloons Tower Defense is the original classic tower defense game from Ninja Kiwi and the beginning of the Bloons TD series. Place monkey towers around the track, pop waves of colorful Bloons, earn money, and upgrade your defenses before the balloons reach the exit.
Released in 2007, the first Bloons Tower Defense keeps the formula simple. There is one winding track, a handful of tower types, and 50 rounds to survive. The challenge comes from deciding where to place your towers and how to spend your limited cash as increasingly difficult Bloon waves appear.
Your main objective is to stop every Bloon from reaching the end of the path. Each round sends a new group of balloons along the track, and every Bloon you pop helps you earn money for your defenses.
You begin with limited resources, so tower placement matters. Positioning a tower in the right location can allow it to attack Bloons for much longer as they travel around the winding path. Build your defenses carefully and prepare for the stronger waves that appear later in the game.
The original Bloons Tower Defense includes five main tower types: Dart Monkey, Tack Tower, Ice Tower, Bomb Tower, and Super Monkey. Each tower attacks Bloons differently and has its own upgrade options.
Dart Towers provide inexpensive basic attacks, while Tack Towers can cover multiple directions. Ice Towers help control groups of Bloons, Bomb Towers provide explosive attacks, and the expensive Super Monkey gives you a powerful option for dealing with tougher waves.
Because each tower has different strengths, combining several tower types can create a much stronger defense than relying on just one.
Every successful round gives you more opportunities to improve your defenses. Money earned from popping Bloons can be spent on new towers or upgrades, allowing your setup to become stronger as the game progresses.
You can also sell towers when you need to reorganize your defense. The original game returns 80% of a tower's purchase price when it is sold, making it possible to change your strategy when the later rounds demand something different.
Not all Bloons are equally easy to deal with. Larger colored Bloons can contain smaller Bloons inside them, meaning that popping one enemy does not necessarily remove all of the danger.
The original game includes several Bloon types, including Red, Blue, Green, Yellow, Black, and White Bloons. Black and White Bloons also introduce different immunities, making the choice of tower important when dealing with certain waves.
Bloons Tower Defense uses a straightforward round-based system. You start with one map and one difficulty level, then work through the waves until you either run out of lives or successfully complete all 50 rounds.
The simple structure is part of what makes the original BTD so replayable. Once you understand the basic tower combinations, you can experiment with different placements and upgrade paths to find more efficient ways to defend the track.
Bloons Tower Defense is played with the mouse. Select a tower from the menu, then click a suitable position beside the track to place it. You can upgrade or sell towers as you earn money during the game. Press Escape to cancel the current tower selection or action.
The game is easy to understand, but successful tower placement becomes increasingly important as the rounds progress.
