How to Play Fireboy and Watergirl in the Ice Temple

The objective in Fireboy and Watergirl in the Ice Temple is to guide both characters through each room and get them to their matching exits. Along the way, you can collect red and blue diamonds, activate switches, move platforms, and solve environmental puzzles.

Fireboy is controlled with the Arrow Keys, while Watergirl uses W, A, and D. You can play alone and control both characters yourself, or use the two control sets with a friend for local two-player gameplay.

Master the Ice Temple

The frozen environment introduces new mechanics that make this chapter different from earlier Fireboy and Watergirl games. Fireboy moves quickly across icy surfaces and can slide for longer distances, while Watergirl moves more slowly and can handle icy slopes differently. Neither character can jump normally while standing on ice.

You'll need to use these differences to your advantage. Sometimes Fireboy's speed helps him cross a large icy section, while Watergirl may be better suited to reaching a higher platform. Think about both characters' routes before making your move.

Solve Puzzles Together

The Ice Temple is filled with mechanisms that require careful coordination. Push buttons, operate levers, move platforms, and manipulate light beams to open new paths. Some puzzles require Fireboy and Watergirl to work on different parts of the room at the same time.

Light beams and colored switches can also change the environment. Blue light can freeze water into ice, while red light can melt ice back into water, creating new routes through certain puzzles.

Collect Every Diamond

Each level contains red and blue diamonds that can be collected by the appropriate character. Fireboy collects the red gems, while Watergirl collects the blue ones. Reaching both exits is the main objective, but collecting more gems and completing levels quickly can improve your performance.

Don't rush through every room. Sometimes the safest route to an exit isn't the shortest one, especially when a diamond is positioned near a dangerous pool or difficult ice section.
